BodyArmor, a sports drink company that received an initial investment from the late Kobe Bryant, will be acquired for $5.6 billion by the Coca-Cola company. According to CNBC, the acquisition will be the largest of its kind by the soft drink company, which will have full control of the brand. The Coca-Cola Company is looking to position BodyArmor as the direct competition to Gatorade, which is owned by Pepsico. Gatorade currently has about 70 percent of the market share in sports drinks, which gives its parent company nearly full dominance over the market. What makes this full acquisition so notable is that Coca-Cola was once the sports drink’s second-largest shareholder. They bought into the company back in 2018 in a deal that gave them 15 percent ownership in the company. At the time, too, the late Kobe Bryant was the third-largest shareholder in the company, as well — and his investment was made just two years after the company was launched. According to the outlet, Kobe Bryant’s...
As Kobe Bryant’s life and career continue to be honored through charity initiatives and new brands, Vanessa Bryant is now further ensuring that her late husband’s legacy continues to live on. According to TMZ Sports, Vanessa is reportedly filing to trademark “KB24” to build a sports and entertainment empire for the late Kobe Bryant. The news outlet reports that she submitted documents early October of 2021 to secure the trademark. The late NBA legend’s company, Kobe, Inc., is listed as the applicant of the filing. KB24 will include digital collectible items, websites, training camps, broadcasting platforms, podcasts, TV shows, movies, documentaries, music, sports cards, food/drink containers and t-shirts. As previously reported by AfroTech, Bryant’s estate parted ways with Nike as Vanessa was reportedly displeased with the brand limiting the availability of Kobe’s products during his retirement and after his passing. It also was reported that Bryant himself was going to end it off...
Before he passed away, Kobe Bryant designed a watch known as — what else? — the Black Mamba. Today, that watch is said to be on track to sell for $10 million. According to Radar Online, the Hublot watch in question was signed and designed by Kobe Bryant, which he reportedly designed back in 2012, when he was a Hublot brand ambassador. But according to the outlet, the auction doesn’t just include the Black Mamba watch (which can fetch upwards of $250,000 on eBay and similar auction sites). Rather, the auction is positioning itself to be “the ultimate collector’s item” by offering other items tied to the late basketball legend. “A digital auction is gearing up to drop a Nike Zoom VII sneaker signed by the longtime Los Angeles Laker — but that’s not all,” reports the outlet. “We’ve learned the package also includes one of the three 18K rose gold Black Mamba Hublot Watches ever designed and signed by Kobe, as well as a custom-curated digital artwork designed by New York City-based...
On the day that has been officially marked and commemorated as “Kobe Bryant Day,” never-before-seen photos of the late NBA legend are selling as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to benefit his youth sports foundation. According to Bleacher Report, an auction run by Cryptograph — a platform that sells rare digital collectibles from public figures and artists for charity — is launching a collection that includes eight photos of the Los Angeles Lakers icon. Proceeds from sales will go toward the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation. Bryant’s nonprofit foundation was formed to fund sports programs in overlooked communities and create a “positive impact for underserved athletes and young women in sports,” according to its website. The organization was founded through the vision and memory of Bryant and his late daughter, Gianna. Markets Insider reports that the newly-surfaced photos were taken by Davis Factor of Smashbox Studios right before Bryant’s decorated sports career began to take off....
If you’ve ever wanted to own a pair of sneakers signed by Kobe Bryant, but don’t have an extra $89,000 laying around, Collectable has a unique solution for you. Yahoo is reporting that the online sports memorabilia company is offering the late basketball legend’s signed French Blue Air Jordan 12 Retro sneakers as an IPO. Collectable’s idea is that memorabilia collectors can own a piece of sports history at an affordable price (in this case, for $10/share), so more fans can access things they otherwise wouldn’t be able to access. “Investors are limited to $5,000 in the first 15 minutes and $15,000 in the next 45 minutes. The cap will be lifted after the first hour. $10 per share, $89,000 All-in, $89,000 IPO, $5,000 share cap for first 15 mins,” explained the company. This offering is one of two pairs of Air Jordans worn by the late Kobe Bryant. The sneakers were verified as authentic, and Bryant wore them to play a Lakers vs. Boston Celtics game in December 2003. The pair features...
