While some runners only need fresh air and a familiar path to get into the zone, others require more motivation. Identifying with the latter group, 26-year-old Destin George Bell developed an application, Card.io , to encourage himself and others like him to get outside and be active. The gamified fitness tracker launched in 2022 and transforms users’ outdoor walking or running into a giant interactive team-based game like Turf War or Capture the Flag. Like Strava and Garmin, it monitors pace, distance, calories burned, and more. Magic Johnson's EquiTrust Dedicates $100M Toward Prioritizing Black-Owned Businesses

Business tycoon, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, will allocate $100 million in federal loans via his insurance company, EquiTrust , to businesses owned by women and people of color as part of the governmental  Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). According to Black Enterprise (BE), Johnson was inspired to participate in the PPP after reading about Black-owned small businesses being unfairly passed over for PPP funds and several major organizations such as the Los Angeles Lakers returning their PPP funds to the federal government. “We knew why the money was gone and couldn’t trickle down to small businesses, especially small minority businesses, because they didn’t have those great relationships with the banks. Jay-Z, Will Smith, Kevin Durant Backed Insurtech Startup Raises $35 Million

Modern life insurance startup Ethos recently announced they’ve raised $35 million in a Series B round of funding. The company’s method of providing online and mobile sales channels provided by the Lincoln, Neb.-based life insurance company, Assurity Life, seems to be working as this amount has significantly increased since their Series A round of $11.5 million. The previous round came from Will Smith’s Smith Family Circle ; Robert Downey Jr.’s Downey Ventures ; Kevin Durant’s Durant Company ; Arrive, a subsidiary of Jay Z’s Roc Nation ; and leading Silicon Valley investment firm Sequoia Capital. The new investment from Google Ventures (GV) and returning investors, Sequoia Capital and Arrive, was led by Accel Partners.
