Through entrepreneurship, Ibukun Olubiyi is looking to create a lasting impact in Canada’s capital city. According to a news release, Olubiyi reportedly opened the first Chick-fil-A restaurant in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada . She was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and spent time in London, England, and Dublin, Ireland, but her journey to becoming an owner-operator was made possible by moving to Canada. Olubiyi pursued her studies at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. The Israeli government reportedly commissioned a campaign in 2023 that included social media accounts targeting Black U.S. lawmakers. The New York Times reported that, in October 2023, Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs paid $2 million to Stoic, a Tel Aviv, Israel-based political marketing firm, to push pro-Israel content on social media at a time when many Americans were concerned for Palestinian civilians during the war in Gaza. The outlet details that Stoic created fake accounts in support of Israel across X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram that focused on over a dozen majority Black and Democrat U.S. lawmakers, including Representative Hakeem Jeffries of New York and U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock of Georgia. Chick-fil-A has just announced that it will donate funds to various nonprofits across the nation that are either Black-led or serve communities of color. According to a press release, through the 2022 Chick-fil-A True Inspiration Awards grants, 34 organizations will receive a portion of the $5 million donation. “Despite the challenges these organizations have faced in the past few years, the 2022 grant recipients have demonstrated incredible passion, perseverance, and leadership as they have continued to enact meaningful change in their communities,” Chick-fil-A, Inc. Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility Rodney Bullard said in a statement. “We are inspired by the impact these organizations have on their communities every day, from providing essential items to those affected by Hurricane Ida, to enabling access to online education for students during the pandemic. Chick-fil-A has announced that it’s offering $5 million in grants for non-profit organizations. In a press release announcement, it was revealed that the popular True Inspiration Awards™ grant program has made its applications available, which you can download here.
