Citi Fulfills Follows Through As 'The Only Top Five U.S. Bank, Based On Assets' To Eliminate Overdraft Fees

Citi is following through on its promises to eliminate overdraft fees. The financial institution is now one of the only top five banks in the U.S. (based on assets) to completely get rid of various charges affecting consumers daily. Now, those with Citi Retail Banking consumer deposit accounts no longer have to worry about overdraft fees, returned item fees, or overdraft protection fees. Lauren And Jrue Holiday's JLH Fund Is Back To Equip Black-Owned Businesses With $1M In Funding

Jrue and Lauren Holiday have announced the third round of funding for Black-owned businesses that totals $1 million in a press release. It is a continuation of NBA Champion Jrue Holiday’s pledge during the 2019-2020 season to donate a portion of his salary to the JLH Social Impact Fund. As previously reported by AfroTech, the JLH Social Impact Fund was created by the couple to serve as support for underrepresented communities not only through monetary resources but mentorship and other services that are needed to scale a business. “We are so excited to announce our third round of grant funding to these very deserving Black-owned businesses and nonprofits, who are helping their communities thrive,” said Jrue and Lauren Holiday in a statement. “Every year we grow our extended JLH family with the hope of shining a light on the need, but also to be an example of how real change occurs when you invest directly in the communities and the people who are underserved.”

Citi Becomes The First Major Bank In The Nation To Completely Eliminate Overdraft Fees

Pesky overdraft fees could soon be a thing of the past thanks to a historic move by Citi. The United States bank has revealed plans to drop its overdraft fees just in time for summer vacation, CNN reports. “This latest enhancement is a significant step for Citi as a leader in the banking industry offering the most consumer-friendly overdraft practices,” Gonzalo Luchetti, CEO of US Personal Banking at Citi, said in a statement . “We are continuously looking for ways to utilize our industry-leading capabilities to make the financial system easier and more equitable for communities who have little or no financial buffer.”

The NAACP has sealed a partnership with Hello Alice, and it’s a pinnacle moment for Black entrepreneurs. Beyoncé’s nonprofit organization BEYGOOD and the NAACP partnered this summer to launch their ow n Black-Owned Small Business Impact Fund. Now after over 17,000 entrepreneurs have applied for the grant program, one lucky business has announced themselves as one of the recipients. The first Black-owned vegan restaurant is now open in Harrisburg, PA, according to VegNews . Co-owned by Laquana Barber and Stefan Hawkins, House of Vegans was inspired by three main things: the lack of food options in their area, Barber’s health issues, and Hawkins inside look at the meat industry during his time as a McDonald’s employee. “American culture views that every meal has to have meat with it when it does not,” Hawkins told The Burg News . “Since I’ve been vegan, it’s been the best part of my life.” Dubbed the Home of Thee Slaps, the vegan eatery opened in July 2020 as some other small Black-owned businesses struggled financially due to the pandemic. Black Execs Create Impact Fund to Offer Broadband Access to Underserved Communities

Broadband internet access has become a public health battle in underserved communities across the country and calls into question how it is used for healthcare purposes. Morris Clark — a former treasurer of Marathon Oil — and Otis Ellis — a former JPMorgan Chase executive — both teamed up to develop an infrastructure fund called the Epiphany Community Impact Fund to help communities in rural and urban states gain more access to broadband.
