Lord Simon Woolley Becomes The First Black Man To Be Named Head Of Cambridge University's Homerton College

Lord Simon Woolley has made British history by becoming the first Black man to be named the head of Cambridge University’s Homerton College.  This distinction makes him the first Black man to be appointed the head of an Oxbridge college — “Oxbridge” being a portmanteau of the words “Oxford” and “Cambridge,” the two most prestigious universities in Great Britain — and the third Black person in Oxbridge history to be appointed. Two Black women — Sonita Alleyne was elected as head of Jesus College, Cambridge in 2019, and Baroness Amos at University College, Oxford in 2020 — have held the role in the past. The BBC is reporting that Lord Woolley, who is the founder of Operation Black Vote, has also served as the leader of the Race Disparity Unit by then-Prime Minister Theresa May. “Its history, from its origins in the East end of London, and its values of inclusion, dynamism, and integrity, along with its vision to be a beacon of hope and academic excellence, make this a must-have role,”...

Passive income is the way to go in this economy, and one woman is using her love of designer bags to get to the money! After a friend offered to pay Princess Dior to borrow one of her designer handbags, a light bulb went off in her head, equipping her with the vision to turn her closet into a check by offering up luxury goods for rent. “They paid me to use my Dior bag for a video shoot. It was my home girl so I would’ve given it to her, but she paid me for it. She gave me $200,” Princess explained during the Millionaire Mindsets podcast. “So, I was sitting down like ‘Dang, she just gave me $200.’ I’m looking like I got like five Dior bags, I got like six Louis [Vuittons], I got a whole bunch of Gucci bags and clothes, that I’ve only worn one time because you know when you wear a print one time, or a Dior or Gucci, you can’t wear it again. So, I was like, ‘Okay, I’m gonna make a business outta this.'” How this entrepreneur gets $5,000-$10,000 per month renting out her designer bags 😳...

'The Underground Railroad': Barry Jenkins' Amazon Series Sets South African Emmy Nominee, Relative Newcomers As Leads

The three lead roles for Barry Jenkins’ upcoming Amazon series, The Underground Railroad, have been unveiled. Jenkins will direct all eleven episodes. Thuso Mbedu, Chase W. Dillon and Aaron Pierre will lead the cast. They will play Cora, Homer and Caesar. The series originally landed at Amazon in March 2017 with a script-to-series commitment. Jenkins is re-teaming with his Moonlight producers (Brad Pitt’s) Plan B, and Adele Romanski, to adapt the Colson Whitehead novel, which chronicles a young slave’s adventures as she makes a desperate bid for freedom in the antebellum South. The novel’s official summary reads: Cora is a slave on a cotton plantation in Georgia. Life is hell for all the slaves, but especially bad for Cora; an outcast even among her fellow Africans, she is coming into womanhood—where even greater pain awaits. When Caesar, a recent arrival from Virginia, tells her about the Underground Railroad, they decide to take a terrifying risk and escape. Matters do not go as...
