Twitter App Security Glitch Could Spell Trouble for Android Users

Twitter recently announced a potential security threat for Android users. An app vulnerability may give hackers backdoor access to otherwise secure account information , such as direct messages, protected tweets, or location details. In addition, such access could allow hackers to take over a user’s account, sending messages on the user’s behalf. Twitter affirmed that there was no proof of hacking, but sought to reassure Android users in a statement posted on its blog, which read, in part: “We have taken steps to fix this issue and are directly notifying people who could have been exposed to this vulnerability either through the Twitter app or by email with specific instructions to keep them safe .” To avoid any possible security issues, Twitter recommends that Android users download the latest version of the app, or use Twitter.com until they are able to do so.  iPhone users were not affected by the security glitch.

Twitter Under Hot Water For Allegedly Censoring Breonna Taylor-Related Tweets and Accounts

Yesterday, a grand jury declined to bring serious charges against the officers — former detective Brett Hankison, Sgt. John Mattingly and Det. Myles Cosgrove — responsible for the shooting that resulted in Breonna Taylor’s death in Kentucky. As a result, social media saw an explosion of posts from frustrated users upset with the jury’s decision, all with an underlying message that justice has yet to be served for Breonna Taylor. Amid the flood of Breonna Taylor posts, Twitter users began reporting strange glitches with their accounts, including messages of account restrictions, suspensions, purged accounts, and deleted tweets almost immediately following any mention of her name in tweets. “I got messaged quickly that my account was tweeting suspiciously after I had a tweet with [Breonna Taylor’s] full name,” said Howard Nedrick Jr. “I had to prove I wasn’t a bot.” Another user, @aldendelena , reported something similar and her account remains restricted as of Sept. 24. “After I...

Wyze Data Breach Prompts Call for Higher Security Standards

Though Amazon reportedly experienced another record-setting holiday season , it also suffered its share of challenges. Among the holiday favorites for many Amazon shoppers was Wyze, the economical, smart home camera system launched by former Amazon staff. Though the top-selling item provided a major boost for Amazon’s holiday revenue, a new data breach may change that record success. A Wyze security breach confirmed in late December is said to have affected more than 2 million customers , according to Fortune. Though the full extent of the breach has yet to be revealed, it involved account information, such as email addresses, Wi-Fi information, and security tokens. According to Wyze, no financial data or passwords were compromised . The latest breach places Amazon at the epicenter of another security glitch. Wyze likely became a viable alternative for wary shoppers shying away from Amazon’s controversial Ring home camera system. Amazon and Ring were recently named in a class-action...

Award-Winning Choreographer Bill T. Jones Has Released a Project With Google

Google wants to combine the worlds of art and technology to change the way people understand identity and self-expression. In one of its latest projects, the company is teaming up with Tony-award winning choreographer Bill T. Jones to create interactive art with words, symbols and movements. For users, creating the art is as simple as logging on to a computer and turning on a webcam. The Google-Jones collaboration consists of four experiments that were developed using the PoseNet machine learning model. “AI is supposed to take us into the next century and important things are supposed to be happening with this technology, so I wanted to see if we could use it to stir real human emotion,” Jones said in a blog post. “Maybe it’s ego, but I want to be the one to know how to use PoseNet to make somebody cry.” The four experiments are titled Manifesto, The Game, Hold That Thought and Naming Things: Approaching 21. In Manifesto, users can create a trail of words that respond to their...
