A class on Issa Rae’s legal life will be taught at Georgia State University College of Law. Black Enterprise reports that George State University law professor Moraima “ Mo ” Ivory designed the course to highlight the legal considerations essential for celebrities with high-profile careers. As a result, the law students will be able to gain a firsthand account from the “ Insecure ” creator herself. She will speak to the class about contracts she has created to land deals over the past decade. This week, Naomi Campbell was a part of the stars kicking off New York Fashion Week (NYFW) with what she’s described as a “dream come true.” On Sept. 5, the supermodel debuted her clothing collection, PrettyLittleThing x Naomi Campbell, according to Los Angeles Times. The collaboration, based on her popular 1990s fashion looks, came together with the help of Black designers Victor Anate and Edvin Thompson.

In light of Black Music Month, we are spotlighting pioneers in the entertainment industry making waves. First up is Clark University alumna Rachel Jackson, who now serves on YouTube Music’s Artist Partnerships Team. Jackson’s journey started at an early age while dancing in the performance arts as a ballerina. The Atlanta native later developed a greater appreciation for music and continued to blossom while living in the Black Mecca. Jackson became immersed in its entertainment landscape, making her first splash while working as an intern at Ludacris’ Disturbing The Peace Records. Her resume only evolved after working as the director of A&R at Roc Nation Label before obtaining her current position as artist relations manager on YouTube Music’s Artist Partnerships Team.
Circle and SeedInvest have launched a collaborative effort to support underrepresented founders. According to a press release, the Community Pitch Competition will be underway on June 1, 2022. The event will provide participants access to capital, networking, and business-building tools in hopes of propelling their business forward. What’s more, the competition will be free to enter. In the end, three founders will take home a prize pool of $5,000, $10,000, or $25,000 coupled with the option to secure funding on SeedInvest with $10,000 in fees waived. Ludacris will be receiving an official salute this upcoming spring. According to a press release, award-winning producer and Grammy award-winning artist Chris “Ludacris” Bridges will be awarded an honorary degree of Science in Music Management at Georgia State University for his philanthropic efforts and commitment to its students. The feat was made official by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents on Wednesday, April 13. “This is a dream come true for me,” said Ludacris, according to a press release. “Georgia State helped me get my start and I am so honored and excited to share this milestone with the world.” Ludacris’ journey at Georgia State began in the 1990s before making his splash in entertainment.
