Drake continues to place big money on sports games, but unlike his last bet, the rapper isn’t walking away as happy this go-round. The Toronto native — who partnered with online gambling company Stake back in 2021 — recently disclosed that he placed a total of $100,000 CAD during the NCAA Final Four matchup between the Duke Blue Devils and North Carolina Tar Heels, according to reports from Complex. His bets were placed on the losing team, the Blue Devils, who hoped to send the legendary Coach K (Mike Krzyzewski) off to retirement with a win after a 47-year career. Drake is down…bad. According to Complex, Mr. Champagne Papi wagered more than $275,000 of his own money on the UFC fight between Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington. And per the outlet, the $275,000 wager was made in Bitcoin on Masvidal…who went on to lose the fight. When Covington, the match’s winner, found out about the literal bath that the “Controlla” rapper took, he wasted no time in gloating about it. “Let’s talk about all the money that Drake lost tonight,” he said at a press conference. “He needs to go back to, you know, selling those s—y albums to get back the money.” He continued: “You suck at sports betting. Go back to your s—y little albums and rapping.” He seems nice, doesn’t he? But the Certified Lover Boy shouldn’t worry too much about what Covington has to say. Shortly after his win over Masvidal, Covington took aim at Dustin Poirier, who is presumed to be his next opponent.
Drake is a man who’s not only confident in his bars but also in his gambling. According to HipHopDX, the rapper has reportedly bet over $1 billion on online gambling company Stake since joining in December 2021. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Our Generation Music (@ourgenerationmusic) While his personal favorite appears to be online roulette — playing from his laptop at home to even NBA games — Drake recently placed a $1.25 million bet, said to be in Bitcoin. The bets included the Los Angeles Rams winning the Super Bowl, as well as on his close friend and NFL star Odell Beckham Jr. scoring a touchdown. “All bets are in on the family,” he wrote on Instagram ahead of the football showdown. Following the Rams’ victory, Drake went on to receive his payout in CAD and Bitcoin, as previously reported by AfroTech. With plenty of the virtual gambler’s time spent on Stake, the outlet now reports he’s working with the platform for the greater good. In a joint Instagram post,...

Editorial Note: Opinions and thoughts are the author’s own and not those of AFROTECH™. The tech industry has faced a wave of shutdowns and layoffs over the past three years, but there may finally be some hope on the horizon. Recently, there’s been an upward trend in companies announcing M&A activity and plans to go public. These announcements not only matter to those who work at or invest in these companies, but they also create opportunities for those looking to break into the tech world—whether as employees or founders. While these signals point to progress, we must not lose sight of the challenges the industry has faced over the past four years—challenges that make even the smallest signs of change feel significant. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, venture capital-backed startups experienced a surge in activity. Historically low interest rates made capital easy to borrow and invest, leading to increased funding for early-stage startups from venture capital firms. Crunchbase...
Editorial Note: Opinions and thoughts are the author’s own and not those of AFROTECH™. President Donald Trum p, who was once a cryptocurrency skeptic, has now yielded to many of the industry’s demands, such as easing federal regulations and oversight. From appointing cryptocurrency advocate and former Securities and Exchange Commissioner Paul Atkins to reprise his old role, to launching his own meme coin, Trump has chosen to embrace cryptocurrency . A few years ago, cryptocurrency was touted as the new form of currency. We wouldn’t be using archaic financial currency and stick to this revolutionized way of transactions. Although some people have made a lot of money off of crypto, its intended use as a decentralized banking system hasn’t been realized. Cryptocurrency is still very new, so new that engaging in it feels comparable to gambling. Trump lifting regulations to give cryptocurrency his blessing bodes well for the industry. A day after announcing Paul Atkins as his pick, the...

Dennis Rodman is likely best known for his prolific career with the NBA , showcasing incredible defensive abilities during his 20-year tenure on the court. However, the retired basketball star has gone on to exhibit a host of eccentric accolades in his 62 years on Earth, making him one of the most interesting humans to ever live. Today, Dennis Rodman touts a paltry net worth of only $500,000 according to Watcher Guru , in spite of his multi-million dollar legacy. Rodman sits at this figure for a number of reasons, most notably due to a number of shady business deals that saw his long-time financial advisor embezzling millions from his personal fortune. Despite Dennis Rodman’s lower-than-expected net worth, the retired basketball legend seems to be living comfortably today, and has tons of social credit to fall back on in case he needs additional financial security. Since retiring from the NBA, Rodman has gone on to wrestle at a professional level, appear in numerous film and...

In 2022, Megan Thee Stallion penned the song “Her.” It is an unapologetic anthem about authenticity, being a boss, and having complete ownership over the things in life. And considering her massive life, Gayle King personifies the song’s deeper meaning. Originally from Chevy Chase, MD, King has spent many years in front of the screen as one of journalism’s who’s who. According to PBS, King’s early work included her 18-year run as an on-air news anchor for WFSB-TV, a Hartford, CT, affiliate of CBS . During that time, she also had a syndicated daytime program. The acclaimed journalist has also partnered with her high-profile best friend, Oprah Winfrey, previously hosting “The Gayle King Show,” which aired on OWN and SiriusXM. King still works as editor at large for Oprah Daily. However, her spot as co-host on “CBS Mornings” has had the most significant impact on her career. She has engaged in several high-profile interviews, targeting major pop culture topics with people such as Tina...
Juicy J’s “Bandz A Make Her Dance” seems to be taking on an entirely new meaning as exotic dancers have been proposed to enter the metaverse. You read that right. No longer are adult entertainment venues constricted to some of the famous names touted by Drake — Tootsie’s, Magic City, and King of Diamonds. One company presented the idea of people sitting in the comfort of their homes and making it rain in the metaverse. But how is this possible?
Drake hasn’t ceased to pump out hits since his debut into the music industry. His music is everywhere, which is why one of his latest milestones shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Variety reports that the rapper has become Shazam’s all-time most searched artist. Falling on the music platform’s 20th birthday, it announced that Drake has a record of 350 million Shazams. Among his long-running discography, “One Dance” featuring Wizkid and Kyla has the most searches at more than 17 million. While Drake took the top spot for artists, Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” came in as the most Shazamed song using “2580” — the app’s first version of its tool that used SMS messages to identify songs. Additionally, “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis feat. Ray Dalton was the most searched song for Hip-Hop/Rap and “All of Me” by John Legend for R&B/soul. Drake’s Shazam feat comes on the heels of becoming the artist with the most top five hits in Billboard Hot 100 history , with 30, according to...
Jack Harlow tried to keep up with Drake and his betting at the Kentucky Derby — and it didn’t work out so well for him. HipHopDX reported that the two rappers — who collaborated on Harlow’s sophomore album on a song called, interestingly, “Churchill Downs” — went to the famous horse race earlier this month. And Harlow, being who he is, decided he’d try to keep up with the 6 God and his various bets. Unfortunately, however, Harlow found out — the hard way — that Champagne Papi is in a class all by himself. “I did, I lost a lot of money,” Harlow said. “I just told Drake I would bet what he bet, so I copied him.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jack Harlow (@jackharlow) Despite losing his proverbial shirt, it seemed like Harlow had a good time at the horse race while hanging out with one of the smoothest rappers in the game. He even credited Drake as being one of his Hip-Hop idols growing up. “Drake is one of the people who literally taught me how to rap; him, Wayne,...
