Joseph B. Hill's DEI Job Offer Was Reportedly Rescinded After 'Flagging Racial Bias'

In efforts to “diversify” the workroom, some companies are hiding behind the gaze of inclusion in hopes of finding a token to enhance their agendas. Joseph B. Hill, a Black Chief Diversity Officer with over 20 years of experience, accepted a new position to serve at Memorial Hermann Health System in the city of Houston as the Vice President, Chief Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Officer. To prepare for a relocation and help Hill find the right home, a real estate agent contracted by Memorial Hermann was hired. Hill noted red flags from the agent as he recalled “unconscious racial bias” being exhibited from the white realtor such as bringing light to a Black-owned clothing store and commenting, “One of those stores over there is owned by a rapper; I don’t know those guys.” Hill also recalled the agent presenting a public golf course as “someplace where you would play,” to wittingly imply he was not welcomed at a private club. Hill, uncomfortable due to the microaggressions, presented...

Snapchat Removes Trump From Discover Section, Twitter Flags His Tweets, But Facebook Still Lags Behind

Social media platforms seem to have had enough of President Trump filling their platforms with hateful content.  Both Snapchat and Twitter have recently taken a stance against the president’s ill and misinformative rhetoric. According to a statement reported by NBC News , Snapchat announced it would no longer promote Trump’s content on its Discover section, citing that it will not “amplify voices who incite racial violence.” “We will not amplify voices who incite racial violence and injustice by giving them free promotion on Discover,” Snap spokeswoman Rachel Racusen told The Washington Post . “Racial violence and injustice have no place in our society and we stand together with all who seek peace, love, equality, and justice in America.” Twitter has also taken a stance against Trump’s violence provoking tweets. Recently the social media giant flagged the president’s “when the looting starts the shooting starts” tweet, as it broke the company’s policies on glorified violence. As...

New Breach Calls Facebook Security Measures Into Question

The security of 29,000 Facebook workers was compromised in November when computer equipment was stolen from an employee’s car. The thief walked away with Facebook 2018 payroll data that included employee names, bank account information, salary, and bonus details, and partial Social Security numbers. “This theft impacts current and former Facebook employees only, and no Facebook user data was involved,” a Facebook spokesperson reported to Business Insider. The data was included on two unencrypted hard drives, which, according to Facebook policy , should never have been removed from the office. Employees were notified of the incident Friday. As is customary with breach incidents, affected workers were offered free subscriptions to identity theft monitoring services. The theft, once again, places a spotlight on Facebook’s security measures, as the social media giant has often been highlighted for data security issues. However, unlike Facebook’s most recent breaches, this incident did...
