This Software Engineer Is Said To Have Opened The First Female And Afro-Latino-Owned STEM Education Center In New York City

Niesha Butler has returned to her roots to teach the next generation of children to “Go Pro.” The New York native opened the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Champs Center for children to thrive in their career paths on Saturday, July 16, 2022. Now, the ballplayer turned software engineer hopes to remind the learning community success is possible in sports and beyond. “We’re excited to bring quality S.T.E.M. curriculum to the Brooklyn and Greater New York City kids. As a kid growing up in this same neighborhood, we were always encouraged to play sports, and through S.T.E.A.M. Champs and the S.T.E.A.M. Champs Foundation, we are encouraging kids to know both and excel in both areas of life,” Butler said in a statement to AfroTech.

EBONY Media Group Names Eden Bridgeman Sklenar As CEO

EBONY Media Group has appointed a new CEO. In a press release, the company has announced that Eden Bridgeman Sklenar will officially step into the role as the brand’s Chief Executive Officer. Toting more than 15 years of senior management experience across several brands, Sklenar aims to add her expertise to help rebuild the iconic brand, which brought us cultural staples like the EBONY and JET magazines. “I am ecstatic to fully embrace the EBONY and JET brands, and to work even more collaboratively with our exceptional senior leadership as we revive and rebuild these iconic brands that have been a staple in our community and culture,” she shared in an official statement around the news.

Ebony Magazine Makes Its Return As a Digital Publication Under New Leadership and Ownership

Ebony magazine is back! After launching in 1945 by John H. Johnson, Ebony has become a force of influence documenting Black life for more than seven decades. According to the Chicago Tribune, after 75 years of Black excellence, including the 1955 Montgomery bus boycott, the 1965 Selma march, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s funeral in 1968, the magazine returned for a digital relaunch.
