Born in Australia but raised in New Jersey, Kyrie Irving was destined for a basketball career. His father, Dredrick, was a college basketball player himself, who went on to play professional basketball in Australia after his college career was over. It was his father who inspired him to become a basketball player, himself. “I’m probably one of the most competitive people ever,” Irving told Yahoo back in 2011. “I want to go out there and destroy people, honestly. It’s fun to me. It comes mainly from my father.” But while his father got his start at Boston University, Kyrie Irving got his start at Duke University, where he quickly began standing out as the superstar he would eventually become. Ultimately, he decided to forgo his final three seasons of eligibility, and submitted himself for the 2011 NBA draft. He was a first-round pick, and was drafted to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Today, though, Kyrie Irving is a point guard for the Brooklyn Nets, and according to Celebrity Net Worth,...
Kyrie Irving continues to prove that he is quite a humanitarian! This time the NBA superstar is providing a Pakistani village with clean water. According to Nets Daily, Tharparkar, located in Pakistan’s Sindh province is one of the poorest parts of one of the world’s poorest countries. After realizing the lack of water resources in the area and that the district has been suffering from a drought for 17 consecutive years, a Michigan-based non-governmental organization (NGO) that has Pakistani roots decided to take action. And, thankfully, Irving and his KAI Family Foundation stepped in to help as well. The Paani Project set a goal to construct a solar-powered water plant in Tharparkar’s poorest village, Rohal — deemed one of the hottest places on the planet — and Irving and his foundation provided the funds. Apparently, Tesla isn't about that marijuana life for their employees … well, unless you're the CEO. The Tesla CEO recently appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience , and admitted he does use marijuana, but claimed he doesn't partake often. Musk also said he usually does not notice the drug's effects. “I’m not a regular smoker of weed,” Musk said before taking a puff of marijuana, which is legal for recreational use in California, where the interview was filmed. But, that's not the point. A former Tesla factory employment isn't amused, accusing the Tesla/SpaceX/Solar City CEO of glaring hypocrisy. Single mother Crystal Guardado claims she was fired after testing positive for THC (an active ingredient in weed) after four months of working at Tesla's Fremont, California location. The positive result was actually due to doctor-prescribed THC drops, which Guardado used outside of work. “It was just like a slap in the face to me and my son,” Guardado told Bloomberg. “Elon Musk is just...
Facebook's diversity problem isn't going anywhere any time soon. The social media juggernaut released their latest diversity report earlier this week only to show that the company has made no ground in hiring black and Hispanic employees. Only the number of women working at the company has made a drastic improvement. CNBC reports that 36 percent of the company is comprised of women, up from 31 percent in 2014. “You can build something that works, that people want to use, but you can’t actually make all the right decisions if among the builders there’s not enough diversity and perspective,” Facebook's head of diversity Maxine Williams explained to CNBC. Black and Hispanic employees have increased from two to four percent and four to five percent over four years, respectively. However, black people in technical roles has remained at one percent. Leadership roles occupied by black people have also remained unchanged at two percent. While women are becoming more visible at the...
