Biotech Company Synlogic Names Former CIGNA Exec Lisa Kelly-Crosswell to Its Board of Directors

Massachusetts-based science technology company Synlogic has announced, today, that Lisa Kelly-Croswell has been appointed to their board of directors. In a press release announcement, the company confirmed that Ms. Kelly-Croswell is joining the board in what the company is calling a “growth stage.” While the immediate details about this growth haven’t been made clear, what is clear is that Synlogic’s focus will be on its proprietary technologies, including those that treat metabolic disorders like Phenylketonuria (PKU) and Enteric Hyperoxaluria (HOX). Magic Johnson just teamed up with Cigna to tackle the effects of the global pandemic on LatinX, Black, and woman-owned businesses. According to the LA Sentinel , the basketball legend and president of the U.S. Commercial Business at Cigna, Mike Triplett will lead the conversation on the effects of the pandemic through a roundtable discussion. The collaboration for change seeks to make a ripple effect across the county and eventually the nation. It’s no secret that African Americans have been hit harder than any other group by COVID-19 . However, even before the pandemic, we knew that the Black community was at a disadvantage in the healthcare system. According to Cigna , a leading healthcare provider, Black people are 80 percent more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes, and 20 percent more likely to have visual impairments. Black women are also 40 percent more likely to die from breast cancer. Dr. Danielle Richardson, an LA-based optometrist at Zak , is trying to help reduce these disparities.
