Primary Wave Acquires 50% Stake In Notorious B.I.G.'s Estate, Which Is Valued At Over $200M

A portion of Notorious B.I.G.’s estate will now be handled by Primary Wave. As AFROTECH™ previously told you, a deal rumored to be in the “eight figures” was in the works between Notorious B.I.G.’s estate and the music publisher and involved half his publishing and master rights, including his rights to name, image, voice, and “other identifiable characteristics.” Notorious B.I.G.’s estate had been primarily run by his mother, Voletta Wallace, who was instrumental in securing stake from Bad Boy Records. Christopher Wallace, otherwise known as Biggie Smalls or Notorious B.I.G., had been one of the first artists to sign to the label owned by Sean “Diddy” Combs. Bad Boy Records had 50% stake in his songwriting catalog, Variety mentions. Voletta was able to increase the estate’s stake to 85% after arguing it was doing the heavy lifting in securing deals to license and monetize Notorious B.I.G.’s music. She then secured the remaining 15% stake in 2020. “Securing control of my son’s...

How Mike Tyson Earned $400M, Filed For Bankruptcy, And Recovered — 'I Didn't Think I'd Make It Through My 30s'

The year 1997 was a good one for Black culture. The movie “B.A.P.S.” was in the theaters, and The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Hypnotize” was at the top of the charts. But it was a somewhat historic June night in Las Vegas, NV, that most people remember most. Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield were going head to head in a boxing match, and something unbelievable happened out of nowhere. Tyson bit off a piece of Holyfield’s ear. That bizarre moment changed boxing forever and was a pinnacle moment in Tyson’s public life. Tyson is a New York native who rose to prominence in the mid-’80s for his boxing prowess. At one point, he boasted an undefeated record, dominating the industry and earning the heavyweight boxing title. According to ESPN, the 56-year-old would finish his 58-fight career with 50 victories, winning 44 by knockout. In 2011, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. And while Tyson’s talent in the boxing ring was commendable, his out-of-the-ring antics started to...

Jalen Rose Recalls The Struggle Before Building His Estimated $50M Fortune — 'My Mother Lights Got Cut Off…I Need To Do Something'

The year 1994 was a good year in pop culture. Films like “The Lion King” premiered, the television show “Living Single” was in season two, the original PlayStation launched, and Notorious B.I.G. had the radio waves slammed with his hit single, “Juicy.” Needless to say, there was no void in cultural moments. The world of sports was no different. Emmitt Smith helped lead the Dallas Cowboys to a Super Bowl Championship, Hakeem Olajuwon and the Houston Rockets won the NBA Finals, and a young shooting guard from Michigan named Jalen Rose entered the National Basketball League (NBA). Rose is a Detroit, MI, native and former star of the University of Michigan’s basketball team and a part of a sports super group known as the “Fab Five.” The quintet consisted of Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Ray Jackson, Jimmy King, and Jalen Rose. Known for their baggy shorts, black socks, and black shoes, they were a part of the first team in NCAA history to make it to the Final Four with a starting lineup...

Tiffany & Co. To Launch Collection Of 250 NFTs For $50K A Piece

Luxury brand Tiffany & Co. is ready to ride the non-fungible token (NFT) wave. The company announced the launch of NFTiffs in a bold move to reach young and wealthy collectors. The collection will be available through CryptoPunks — one of the early pioneers of NFT collections — on Friday, Aug. 5. To no surprise, NFTiffs’ selling price is quite hefty, as only 250 NFTs will be up for grabs. The selling price is $50,000 (30 ether) and each customer can purchase up to three NFTs. “These clients obviously skew a bit younger than our [classic] client base. It’s an anonymous [population], it’s not like you know who owns what, but what we generally understand is that they are younger and very affluent, a lot of them made large amounts of money in the crypto sphere. People need to understand that a lot of the things in their world are linked to luxury like desirability, scarcity, trends — they understand the ups and downs,” said Tiffany & Co. Executive Vice President for Product and...
