Base10 Partners Becomes The First Black-Led Venture Capital Firm To Reach $1B In Assets

February may have come and gone, but the historic contributions of Black people are an everyday thing. This sentiment is proof positive by the founders of Base10 Partners, what’s said to be the world’s largest Black-led venture capital firm. Recently, the firm announced it closed on a new $460 million fund for early-stage investments which takes its total assets under management to more than $1 billion. This newest fund is the largest to date. In 2021, the firm closed on what is now a $300 million growth-stage fund, The Advancement Initiative, which donates 50 percent of carried interest to Historically Black Colleges and Universities to create scholarships and bolster school endowments. Ade Ajao and TJ Nahigian founded Base10 Partners just four years ago. Since its inception in 2018, the Bay Area firm uses a data-proven approach to determine how to invest in tech automation within companies across the food, logistics, global fintech, and retail industries.

Base10 Partners Raises $250M Fund To Connect HBCU Endowments And Scholarships To Venture Capital

Inequities in funding for Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) has been a deep-rooted issue in the American education system for decades. While the venture capital industry has vowed for years to invest in more Black and people of color, Silicon Valley venture capital (VC) firm Base10 Partners is following through on that promise with a unique initiative bridging the gap between VC and higher learning. A press release reports that Base10 Partners announced the raise of a $250 million fund for an initiative known as the Advancement Initiative — which aims to invest in tech companies and then take a portion of the profit from the fund and donate it to HBCU endowments and student scholarships. Base10 will reportedly create scholarships in the name of each of its portfolio companies to then fund the education of HBCU STEM students. World's Largest Black-Led VC Firm Doubles Its Latest Fund to $250M

In the face of the world’s most devastating health crisis, millions of people and businesses crumbled under the detrimental hits from the economy.
