Brands Aren't Following Through On Anti-Racism Pledges, And Consumers Are Noticing

Nearly two-thirds of U.S. consumers surveyed in a new report said they feel like brands have done little to nothing to follow through on the anti-racism pledges they made last summer. Big name brands like Snapchat, adidas, Yelp, and PepsiCo made promises to improve their diversity and inclusion efforts following protests due to the murder of George Floyd. A year later and 34 percent of consumers said brands had done little to tackle their internal racial problems, while 27 percent of consumers believe they have done even less than that. “ Black Lives Matter protests in 2020 were, by volume, the largest demonstrations in American history. As a result, they have had a serious lasting effect on both the national conversation around race, as well as the responsibility of businesses to do their part in tackling racism,” GWI Trends Analyst Doug Gorman said in a press release. “Now more than ever, consumers are actually holding brands accountable for their Corporate Social Responsibility...

Milwaukee Area Technical College's Former DEI Officer Has Filed A Federal Lawsuit Against The Institution

Milwaukee Area Technical College’s DEI officer is suing the institution. Eva Martinez Powless took on her newly created role at the Milwaukee, WI-based institution in 2021. Her immediate course of action was to launch a five-year diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) plan, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. The plan began rolling out in 2022 and was shared with the African American Network, the Anti-Racism Coalition, and the Latinx United Network Alliance (LUNA). Despite these efforts, she claims there was still pushback surrounding DEI efforts on the campus. She alleges that her former manager, Phillip King, the executive vice president of student success at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), had displayed “unprofessional” and “inappropriate” behavior after she voiced observing patterns of misconduct towards employees of color, per the outlet. Martinez Powless claims that she was subsequently excluded from important meetings, King scrutinized her work more closely, and...

The outlet reports that screenshots of the influencer’s story suggest that people unfollowed him for those posts. “I don’t mind guys,” Lame shared in a now deleted post. “We are almost in 2022 and people still use racism because they have nothing to do in their life. Be happy, follow your dream and try to save the planet. You can also unfollow me. I don’t care about the numbers, I care about your hearts! If you do think of something new, do it right and in a positive way!” The Senegalese-Italian TikToker took his act of spreading love a step further by linking a charity fundraiser — gogetfunding.com — on his story for his followers to...
