Donations Near $400K For Burger King Employee Who Was Given A Goodie Bag After Not Calling Out For 27 Years

Hard work continues to pay off for one Burger King employee.

Employee Of The Year

In a previous report, AfroTech shared the story of Kevin Ford. The man who went viral after being given a goodie bag for never missing a day of work for 27 years.

Many thought that Ford, who worked at the fast-food chain located inside the Las Vegas McCarran International Airport, deserved more than that.

Smashing Goals

Not only did they think the reward was an insult, but they immediately took the clip of him showing gratitude for the goodie bag and used it as a campaign to raise funds.

When we first reported the story, the GoFundMe page had reached more than $200,000. As of this writing, it’s nearly $400,000.

“Y’all shattered the original goal, so I increased it,” said the organizer of the GoFundMe, Seryna Ford, who also happens to be Ford’s daughter. “I keep getting messages from y’all to increase the goal, I’m listening, just been a little busy running around!”

In the note from his daughter, she explains that the money will help him afford to retire comfortably after managing to put all four of his daughters through high school and college with full healthcare coverage, thanks to the job.

“My dad continues to work there, because though he does look young, he is coming up on retirement age and leaving would cost him his retirement,” she wrote. “In no way are we asking for money or is he expecting any money but if anyone feels like blessing him he would love to visit his grandchildren.”

In a previous interview, he expressed his gratitude for people’s kindness.

“I just can’t believe this. Thank you, thank you everybody,” said Ford during a TODAY interview alongside his family. “I just want to tell everybody out there, ‘Thank you for every cent.’ Just the thought of watching the video and just having a reason to smile. I want to thank everybody.”
