Making deliveries can be a great way to make some extra part-time — or even full-time — income. While you won’t earn the benefits that come with a full-time job, you can make good money and choose your own schedule — vital for those taking care of family or with other jobs.

You can find today’s most-popular delivery gigs, such as Amazon Flex, DoorDash, and Instacart, on your smartphone. If you have an insured vehicle, you can get started by downloading one of these apps and completing the job application form. Once accepted, you’ll be able to pick and choose your delivery shifts or pickups just by logging in. And you’ll be able to deliver items to each customer’s door to practice social distancing.

Amazon Flex

Given Amazon’s status as the world’s largest retailer, there are always Amazon deliveries to make. Through the Amazon Flex app, users sign up for an available shift, head to a local Amazon warehouse to have their cars or trucks loaded, then make deliveries. Flex drivers are paid twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays, and your pay can range as high as $15 to $21 an hour.

DoorDash

When a customer orders takeout from DoorDash, they place an order and pay a delivery fee and tip with the app. If you’re making DoorDash deliveries, you’ll see the order in the app, select it, then go to the restaurant to place and pay for it using a DoorDash-issued debit card. You’ll then pick up the order and drop it off at the customer’s door. DoorDash makes their money by charging restaurants — not you, so you get to keep 100% of the delivery fee and tips. You can also earn extra by delivering during peak hours or being highly ranked by customers.

Instacart

You can also work as an Instacart Shopper — selecting, purchasing, and delivering groceries for customers. In the app, you’ll choose a shift, and during that shift, you’ll see orders that you can choose to accept or ignore. After accepting an order, you’ll go to the store to buy the groceries with a preloaded company debit card. You’ll deliver the groceries to the customer and keep 100% of the tips as well as a delivery fee.

With any of these jobs, keep expenses in mind — like insurance and extra car repairs. But even after expenses, you can make money delivering for Amazon, DoorDash, or Instacart.
